Our flight was delayed by more than 2 hours. The perfectly planned Friday night 9pm arrival time went up in smoke as soon as the PA announced the first delay due to a hurricane in Florida. We weren’t in Florida. We were 1289 miles away and going even further north. To Tokyo Smoke Toronto. Where cannabis is legal for all adults.
We finally landed at 11:45. The Toronto Airport is just big enough to make you feel the walk. 10 minute line at customs. The bags were awaiting our arrival and remarkably quick into a cab. The 30 minute drive to the “entertainment district” revealed a gorgeous well lit extremely modern empty city. No traffic. No people. No dispensaries we’re open by the time we got checked into our room on the 46 floor of a glass tower with a soaker tub and views of lake of Ontario and the CN tower and all of Toronto that did not make me miss NYC at all. A quick Google search revealed a number of delivery services that claim to be open 24 hours. However not being a resident and knowing that haven’t been to Toronto since 1986, I decided it was more prudent not to test the limits and Tokyo Smoke Toronto wait till morning.
Most dispensaries in Toronto don’t open until 11 AM. This is not conducive to my early morning persona.
Some of the locations on Google claimed to be open “24 hours”. So leaving the insane comfort of the room I lucked into due to some overbooking situation, I headed out on foot armed with google maps and a general idea of what I was looking for. None of the locations on Google were physical sites or open. One dispensary posted hours opening at 9 AM. From a delightful coffee shop It was a quick walk directly into the heart of downtown Toronto I arrived in front in about 10 minutes. Tokyo Smoke
At Tokyo Smoke Toronto, No line at 9 AM on Saturday morning. Upon showing ID to the armed guard at the front entrance I was invited inside. Through a short hallway I entered a large, well lit, brand new, clean, 40 x 40 room. Unless you took a close look at what was actually on the walls, it could’ve been mistaken for any room in any spa with other products on the wall.
Once you’re focused in though, the sheer amount of variety was overwhelming. Well over 50 strains. Pre-rolls from all different strains. Flower, wax, edibles, as well as an amazing assortment of every possible way to consume it. It was all priced perfectly reasonable notwithstanding the obvious overhead and inventory needed to keep that situation running.
After reviewing the way the products were organized I headed to a section called “Pause”. An extremely knowledgeable, friendly Tokyo Smoke Toronto employee approached as soon as he sensed that I had enough to time to look around and take it all in.
By the time I exited. There was a line. Which upon inquiry, I was assured will wax and wane until it closes at 7pm.
The City of Toronto is imminently friendly. There are beautiful hotels in every price range and excellent restaurants to satiate every desire. The area immediately surrounding to Tokyo Smoke offers a food truck court, retail of every kind, gorgeous parks, the Eaton Center, hotels, bars and restaurants of every kind. All within walking distance. So if your in Toronto, and it’s early, talk a walk, you can’t go wrong.
