Appearance causing confusion with another highly anticipated 4/20 event on Sunset Beach
Navigating 4/20 festivities can be confusing at the best of times, for obvious reasons. It becomes even more so when competing events share the same name.
Comedian and UFC commentator Joe Rogan is coming to Vancouver on Apr. 20 to help the city celebrate weed day, an event near and dear to his heart. But if the name of his Rogers Arena show — Joe Rogan: 4/20 Vancouver — sounds familiar, it’s because its already in use.
“Joe Rogan is doing his own show at Rogers Arena that night,” cannabis and human rights activist Jody Emery wrote on Twitter Friday. “He’s not scheduled for our event. But he’s causing confusion by calling his show “4/20 Vancouver”, clearly!”
Wildly popular on the mixed martial arts circuit for his work with the UFC, Rogan is also an enthusiastic pot advocate who enjoys dancing along the fine line of political correctness. He made headlines last week when he offered his endorsement to Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, a move that earned him the scorn of vast segments of the internet that expected him to support someone else.
“I think I’ll probably vote for Bernie,” the comedian told The New York Times’ Bari Weiss, a recent guest on his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience. “Him as a human being, when I was hanging out with him, I believe in him, I like him, I like him a lot. Look, you could dig up dirt on every single human being that’s ever existed if you catch them in their worst moment and you magnify those moments and you cut out everything else and you only display those worst moments,” he suggested.
“That said, you can’t find very many with Bernie. He’s been insanely consistent his entire life. He’s basically been saying the same thing, been for the same thing, his whole life. And that, in and of itself, is a very powerful structure to operate from,” he added.
He convinced tech giant Elon Musk to smoke a joint and had Sanders first reveal his plan to legalize marijuana as president during his podcast. In truth, Joe Rogan would prefer everyone use cannabis if he had a choice.
Emery’s competing event, 420 Vancouver, is in its 26th year and is touted as “the world’s longest running 4/20 event.” Held at Sunset Beach in Vancouver, this year’s iteration is expected to draw around 100,000 people to celebrate and enjoy cannabis culture.
It doesn’t sound like you can go wrong either way.
