It’s not just another gimmick. Dermatologists believe CBD lip balm can benefit your skin in many ways. Here’s how
Some might argue that adding CBD to lip balm is just another marketing ploy, an easy way to make money as the CBD hype continues to build. But dermatologists disagree and explain how CBD can play an important role in moisturizing lips.
In an interview with Well + Good, Claudia Mata, co-founder of Vertly, explains that CBD’s role in lip balm is very helpful, akin to the role of beeswax, which is one of the most beneficial compounds when it comes to treating dry skin. “CBD is very nourishing and has anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe chapped skin,” she says.
Here are four CBD benefits that are dermatologist approved:
It’s antibacterial and antioxidant
CBD is known for its antibacterial and antioxidant properties, which, when applied to lip balm, lead to more protection for your skin and to reducing element overexposure.
When experiencing symptoms of the flu, cold sores, inflammation or allergies, CBD lip balm can reduce redness and irritation.
The oil is packed with vitamins
According to Kino, maker of various types of CBD products, vitamins like A, C and E are present in some versions of CBD hemp oil. These vitamins promote healthy skin and slow down its natural aging process.
It prevents flaky lips
Good lip balms provide hydration. Lip balms with quality CBD oil in them ensure your lips stay hydrated by creating a seal that will make your lips moist for longer periods of time.
“With a well-made CBD lip balm, the CBD oil will seal moisture in your lips, preventing them from becoming dry or flaky,” says Gretchen Frieling, MD.
It can treat severely chapped lips
While CBD lip balm can be used on all kinds of lips, severely chapped ones can get tons of relief thanks to CBD’s healing properties. Unlike the compounds found in everyday lip balms, CBD oil can treat skin blemishes much faster, helping heal superficial cuts, protecting you against cold weather, and more.
