“All this for just a DUI and smoking a little marijuana. I hope you are happy with yourself.”
Sometimes you have to remember to stop and smell the cannabis.
A 68-year-old man is facing multiple charges after doing just that before taking police on a slow-speed chase through Bellefonte, Pa.
The passive pursuit only covered 15 miles, but took a fair bit of time because Dorie Adams was only driving at around 20 miles an hour, according to WJAC.
“All this for just a DUI and smoking a little marijuana. I hope you are happy with yourself,” Adams chided police after they “caught up” with him.
The sluggish senior appeared in court on Wednesday, where police relayed that they tried to pull over the driver in the middle of the day, but he flatly refused to comply, preferring, instead, to offer officers a gradual tour of scenic Bellefonte and Milesburg.
There were about seven cruisers involved in the chase, Centre Daily reported, before Adams was taken into custody.
“When we get into these situations, you have to weigh the reward of catching him,” Chief Shawn Weaver of the Bellefonte Borough Police said Thursday.” We knew who he was, so if it would have got to the point where it was unsafe, we would have definitely called the pursuit off. … But we were pretty confident that if he continued on the road, he was going to cause an accident,” Weaver said.
The elderly adventurer reportedly faces a felony charge for running from police, two misdemeanour charges for driving under the influence and five traffic violations.
“I’m innocent,” Adams told WJAC, who reported he has already been charged with possession again during a separate incident.
