From latte art throwdown to cannabis 101, getting lit in chilling Alberta can be fun
Winter is here. How we wish it wasn’t.
Calgary and most of Alberta is currently experiencing bone-chilling weather. But, believe it or not, there’s good news. The latest reports by Calgary Herald suggests the weather may be clearing up post-Sunday.
Meanwhile, for those brave enough to step outdoors, here are some events that might be worth checking out.
Every Friday, 945 General Ave. NE, Calgary, 5-8 p.m., free admission
Cannabis industry experts to address legalization 2.0 with products such as edibles, topicals and concentrates hitting the Canadian cannabis market — and the science behind them too. This event is totally free to attend!
Jan. 18, 3133 30 Ave. SE, Calgary, 7-11:30 p.m., door tickets $20
An 18+ event, Calgarians can head over to the Dover Community Centre for a night of fun! Hosted by the Calgary 420 Cannabis Community, attendees can hear from advocate Keith Fagin as well as other Alberta cannabis leaders. Comedians James Moore and Stan Thompson will take to the stage for some laughs, and there will be a raffle for custom glass bongs. Though weed and other infused products will not be sold on site, you can rent vapes if you bring your own buds.
Jan. 20, 1205 1 St. SW., Calgary, 8-9:30 p.m., free admission
Tokyo Smoke is hosting a contest for baristas of all skill levels. Come down and create some killer latte art — we’re talking more than just those cute little leaves — and head home with prizes from Fellow, Pilot, Oatly and Tokyo Smoke. Every contestant will win something, so you’ve got nothing to lose (literally). Food and drinks will be provided. Now get practicing!
Jan. 23, 421 7th Ave. SW, Calgary, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., $55
Come and hear speaker Emilie Feil-Fraser, an associate at Gowling WLG law firm, who will talk about buying, selling and financing in the cannabis industry post the second phase of legalization. The event features free lunch and networking opportunities.
Jan. 23, 5001 49 Ave., Vermilion, 6:30 p.m.
Sit in on an information session led by RCMP and by-law officers as well as health care professionals to learn more about cannabis. Discussions will cover topics like cannabis products, local by-laws, legislation and the health effects of cannabis. There will also be resources available on how to help those suffering from addiction.
Jan. 25, 2827 14 Street SW, Calgary, 6-8 p.m., $15
Hemp Roots and She&Herb are hosting a fun and informative night for women who are new to cannabis. The discussions will centre on women and cannabis, and you’ll learn about THC, CBD as well as shopping and caring for cannabis accessories. Enjoy tea and light refreshments and a free goodie bag! This event is 18+, and no cannabis will be provided, and no use of cannabis will be permitted on site.
Jan. 29, 11620 104 Ave. NW, Edmonton, 5-8 p.m., $10
Head over to Edmonton’s Brewsters Oliver Square for an evening of networking with people working in Canada’s cannabis sector. The AGLC’s Kelly Holmes will give a presentation on the latest developments surround cannabsi 2.0, followed by a Q&A; Alberta Cannabis Council’s John Carle will talk about the council’s work.
